LAHORE: The administration of Lahore division has put the relevant departments on high alert and instructed them to station at various locations in the Allama Iqbal zone as the number of hot spots for dengue larvae in the capital of Punjab reaches 35,385 in number.
These areas, which are all regarded as being extremely sensitive, include Bahria Town, Johar Town, Sabzazaar, Iqbal Town, and Mustafa Town.
The decision to put the departments on high alert was made in light of the increasing number of suspected, probable, and confirmed dengue fever cases since January, as well as other administrative and technological problems.
"With the increasing hotspots of dengue larvae growth and identification, we have stepped up our fight against dengue.
After our teams discovered dengue larvae in several locations, we also determined that the Allama Iqbal Zone is particularly sensitive, Lahore Commissioner Amir Jan told Dawn on Sunday.
Officials on the alert because of a boost in cases
The teams from Jan. 1 to Sept. 18 found and eliminated 35,389 hot spots, according to an official report compiled by the responsible departments, including the Lahore City administration and the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL).
During this time, the administration received reports of 5,594 suspected cases and 583 probable cases.
However, there were 1,380 confirmed dengue patients / cases as of September 18; 1,133 of those were recorded alone in the previous 30 days.
Similar to this, there were 438 confirmed patients or cases in the past seven days (Sept. 12 to 18), including 53 recorded in the previous day.
The study states that throughout several visits in 2022 (up until September 18), workers found and destroyed 99,992 dengue larvae.
The field teams also issued summons to 92,382 persons, businesses, and other locations, as well as filing FIRs under dengue legislation against 3,208 people for littering and causing dengue larvae growth.
In addition, 889 persons were arrested.
It goes on to say that in the last 24 hours, the teams issued notices to 1,278 persons and businesses, filed 29 FIRs, and detained seven people for violating dengue legislation.
According to the study, the teams also performed inter-residual spray (anti-mosquito) at the homes of suspected / confirmed dengue patients 179,744 times.
Furthermore, the IRS was performed 728,783 times in an attempt to destroy dengue larvae.
The fog spray was used 37,391 times in various locations.
CLEANLINESS: As part of the city's gleaming and green push, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) carried out a special cleaning operation in several parts of the city on Sunday.
According to firm MD Ms Rafia Haider, the crews gathered 6,150 tonnes of solid trash from all nine towns / zones in the city in the last 24 hours and disposed of it at the Lakhudair landfill site.
"The LWMC has also collected 750 tonnes of rubbish from Allama Iqbal Town, 550 tonnes from Gulberg, 650 tonnes from Nishtar, 650 tonnes from Samanabad, 400 tonnes from Aziz Bhatti, 650 tonnes from Data Ganj Bakhsh, 550 tonnes from Ravi, 550 tonnes from Shalimar, and 400 tonnes from Wagah Town."
Furthermore, 400 tonnes of rubbish were gathered from Saggian and 150 tonnes from the Rajgarh area, according to Ms Haider.
She stated that, in addition to day-to-day operations, mechanical washing and sweeping of important highways was underway.
She stated that because illegal dumping and scattering of construction debris on the roadways was impeding the clean-up operation, the LWMC enforcement wing had been formed to limit such illegal dumping of waste and take action under the Local Waste Management Act.
